Climate in Austria

Since the greatest part of Austria is situated in the cool/temperate climate zone humid westerly winds leave their indelible marks on Austria’s weather patterns, its climate being predominantly alpine due to the fact that over half of the country dominated by the Alps. In the eastern parts of Austria – namely the Pannonian Plain and the area along the Danube valley – climate conditions are peppered with ample splashes of continental weather, receiving significantly less rain than the alpine areas. While Austria’s winter are renewed by the thick blanket of cold that covers the country, its summers are also typified by warmer temperatures that usually hover between 20 – 40 °C.
